Do you ever tried to avoid being too friendly with a hot new person you meet as not to land in the friendzone?

My opinion on this is no. When I meet a guy, I already know if I'm attracted to him or not. If I'm not, then there's nothing he can do that won't land him in the friend zone. If I am attracted, he doesn't need to worry about it. Since most good relationships are based on being able to be close friends as well as romantic partners, this doesn't seem like the best strategy. Point is, a girl knows right away whether or not you have a chance with her. If you don't, you're not going to. If you do, there's still a chance you could screw it up by doing something stupid, but not wanting to be friends or being friendly isn't one of those things.
