How long does dry dog food last, once its opened?

I just bought a 37.5 pound bag of Purina Beneful for Puppy, and have one of those dog food canister/ storage containers so i'm hoping that will maintain its freshness. i'm asking because my pup only eats a little a bit and i'm thinking it going to take a while before she finishes the bag!
