Why is science important in the field of Zoology?

Zoology is the scientific study of animals. There are other, unscientific ways of studying animals, such as folklore. There is no shortage of myths and folklore about animals, but scientists will not blindly believe in folklore and myths, but will instead try to verify any claims using the scientific method.
